The Gamay Noir grape is another hidden gem for Peller Estates. Gamay Noir is perfect for sipping and the refreshing acidity makes it a great food wine. The wine was barrel aged for 9 months in 70% French oak and 30% American oak.

A ruby red colour with a pretty bouquet of red cherry, wild strawberry, red currant and a hint of smoke and spice. This light to medium-bodied wine has velvety tannins with flavours of cherry, red berry and blue plum. The dry yet juicy finish lingers with notes of cherry, currant and spice. Best enjoyed while young and fresh.

Serve at a cool room temperature of 16 to 18ºC in large bowled wine glasses to appreciate the aromas. A very versatile wine that matches well with veal parmesan; pork tenderloin with rhubarb sauce; vegetarian lasagna; La Sauvagine cheese with water crackers; gourmet pizza topped with Spanish sausage, thyme, mozzarella and tomato sauce; barbecued salmon steaks; pulled pork on a bun; burgers; and meaty tomato sauce pastas.

I didn't know anything about Gamay until I tried it at the winery. It's amazing and now I'm turning my friends on to it too... that's one way I'm assured a decent red when I visit them...
